Easy Turkish Red Onion Salad

This easy salad is a favorite of Chef Nurdan Erdem, chef-owner of Enfes NYC and the curating chef for our Turkey Box. It is great on its own, or you can use it as a relish for dishes like balık ekmek, a fried or grilled fish sandwich with vegetables on Turkish pide bread.


Serves: 4 | Time: 10 minutes


  • 2 red onions
  • 2 tsp. sumac
  • 1 tomato
  • 1 handful chopped parsley
  • 1 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 1 lemon’s juice
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. red vinegar


  1. On a cutting board, chop the red onions in half-moon slices
  2. Add into a bowl and and stir in 2 tsp. sumac
  3. Dice tomato and add to bowl.
  4. Add parsley.
  5. Stir in olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and red vinegar.
